Position #0180: Business Development Manager –  Photovoltaics

Description: New position responsible for developing a prospective photovoltaic business within Luz II. The position will take charge of all PV-related planning activities and develop company strategy for PV. Possibly, the selected person will lead the product and project developments if and when decisions are made to commercialize the technology as a product add-on to the BrightSource projects.

Job description: This function will perform and coordinate technical evaluations and performance and business analyses of photovoltaic technologies and their possible integration in the BrightSource Energy business model;  specifically in BrightSource Solar Thermal Electric Generating Systems (STEGS) projects. The overall objective is to develop PV products (with PV component suppliers) which can be integrated into defined BrightSource STEGS projects and, in so doing, increase the overall profit and profit margin of the project. An important aspect of the job will be managing the assimilation of photovoltaic technology implementation into project financing models.  Another important aspect of the job is to define the specific PV subsystem that is to be designed, which when developed and integrated into the system will increase the overall profit margin.  Another important aspect of the project is possibly to lead the implementation effort in the building product, the integration into the system technically and commercially.  It is possible that over time the PV products will have a life of their own, outside the context of STEGS projects.

The person selected will have to be able to roll up his or her sleeves and do all aspects of the job in coordination with existing internal resources. Over time, this manager will be responsible for building a work group, which will have to be able to do independent work and integrate into the overall project development team.

Additional responsibilities may include managing contacts with potential suppliers and technology integration partners.

Organizational aspects: The position will report to Yoel Gilon, Senior VP, R&D, and will also receive direction from Luz II senior management (Arnold Goldman and Israel Kroizer). It is likely that the position will be responsible for hiring and supervising additional personnel, and also for enlisting and directing the work of outside consultants. The position is in Jerusalem; a moderate amount of travel will be required.

Requirements:
  • Technical background: BS or higher in a related field (e.g., mechanical or electrical engineering, physics, or materials science)
  • Business/economics background: MBA or other business/economics degree, or proven experience in technology management, or in performing techno-economic and/or project finance analyses
  • Work experience: minimum 5 yrs in relevant fields
  • Language skills: fluency in English required, preferably also in Hebrew
  • Entrepreneurial experience in starting up a company is also preferred but not necessarily required.
