PILOT PLANT
TEST SITE
  TEST SITE

In April 2007, LUZ II Ltd completed work on a test site in the Har Hotzvim Technology Park in Jerusalem, Israel.

The LUZ II test site contains nine heliostats, each of which has a reflective area of 7 m². The site will be used to test and evaluate the heliostats' mechanical, optical and control parameters.
The mechanical components and installation system will be tested and evaluated for rigidity, accuracy, backlash, the amount of energy consumed by the motors, and the heliostats' response under various wind loads.

The heliostats' optical performance will be analyzed for beam characterization and optical accuracy. Areas of the control system which will be studied include tracking and emergency software procedures, the efficiencies of electronic parts, the open and closed loop systems, and the calibration systems.

Testing at the site will also assist in the development and optimization of future systems including the photovoltaic power unit, wireless networking, and special tools for optimizing the installation and maintenance of the power plants.

In the coming months, 11 heliostats and a control center will be added to the site.
